Recent election results have unveiled a victory for the Law and Justice party but a lack of the parliamentary majority needed for independent governance, echoing the situation in Bulgaria over the last three years. President Duda's nomination of Mateusz Morawiecki (from Law and Justice) for the next prime ministerial term encounters significant challenges, given the insufficient support for the ruling party in the lower house of parliament (Sejm). Consequently, it is anticipated that by the end of November or early December 2023, Donald Tusk will assume power in the country, supported by Civic Platform, the Peasant Party, Poland 2050, and a coalition of Social Democratic Parties.

In domestic policy, the new government will reassess the relationship between the state and the church, addressing perceived overreach by the Catholic Church in Poland. The liberalization of anti-abortion laws is also on the agenda. Regarding foreign policy, under Tusk's leadership, Poland is poised to embrace a more pro-European and pro-transatlantic stance. The incoming Foreign Affairs Minister will play a pivotal role in restoring Poland's tarnished reputation resulting from the preceding eight years of a nationalistic government. The key question is: will the approach to Russia and Ukraine change, or will it remain steadfast?
