RE: Group Presentations Are Not Compulsory, but there is a very Good Incentive to Participate in them.

Dear Colleagues,

Just to clarify.

The grades 4.5 & 5 in this class will be reserved for those who write a thematic essay in an academic fashion composed of an introduction, development, and conclusion (between 2000- 3000 words). If you are a strong writer, you can just write an essay. But even if you are still an aspiring writer, try to compensate by being active in class discussions, participating in the group project, and making an effort to write a book review, and you will pass this class.

The group presentation assignment involves networking - the use of your soft power to attract others to do this project together. This comprises finding the people who will present with you (2-4 people in one group), selecting a particular Foreign Policy theme, preparing the presentation together, and presenting it together [Presentation should not be longer than 15-20 minutes - so you need to be mindful of timekeeping as well].

For instance, if you are interested in Barack Obama's Foreign Policy, or John F. Kennedy/Dwight D. Eisenhower's policy choices that still affect the US under the Donald Trump Administration and you want to share this with the group, you can present a short presentation about this issue; and I will make sure to give you the floor before, during or after one of my lectures.

Don't be afraid of networking: The better at networking you become, the better your chances are in succeeding in academia, private, and corporate sectors after you graduate. Some of you may enter politics, open your businesses, or be in charge of some pro bonno or nonprofit projects, so you will need those skills for life. Use your time at the university in a productive manner - make some friends.
