99% of people who may be interested in reading your paper will read the Title. 98% Will read the Abstract. 70% will read the first two sentences of your Introduction. Make it worthwhile to capture the reader’s imagination.

An introduction for an essay or research paper may be the first paragraph, which explains the topic and prepares the reader for the rest of the work but is arguably the most crucial part.

The readers expect you to provide them with a clear explanation of the problem that you will write about. It could introduce your readers to a broader geostrategic/cultural/theoretical background that you will bring to them.

What to include in it?

Introductions generally follow the author's writing style and the format for the type of paper. Not every paper requires background knowledge, but sometimes your reader needs to catch up or understand the context before making your original points, so it is your role to find the right balance for them. Mainly, suppose your audience is comprised of undergraduate, postgraduate students, or early researchers. In that case, you must tell them what you have written this paper/chapter about, explain its purpose, and encourage them to read it.
