Piotr Pietrzak's research interests include international relations, security studies, and humanitarian intervention, among others. He has authored several articles and book chapters in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes, including "On the Idea of Humanitarian Intervention: A New Compartmentalization of IR Theories. 2021" He has also contributed articles to the online publication Modern Diplomacy.

He recently coined the term ontology in statu nascendi which allows him to approach both the great debates within the IR theory in a more coordinated way and makes it easier to approach the events in the Middle East in a more holistic manner and through the prism of various other developments in Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Africa, and Eurasia in general.
